Perched high above Jiaoxi's Wufengqi Waterfall in Yilan County, the Sacred Mother Trail doubles as a serene Catholic pilgrimage route and gateway to Sanjiaolun Mountain, one of Lanyang's five great peaks. Begin with a gentle 3.7-km country lane (about 1 hour) through bird- and insect-rich secondary and plantation forests, then tackle a steep ascent. The 3-hour round trip unveils tiered cascades, lush broadleaf woods, stunted dwarf forests, and arrow bamboo stands. A ridge observation deck rewards hikers with sweeping Pacific vistas. Weather shifts dramatically: winter monsoons drench the path, while summer afternoons often bring sudden fog—frequently creating the striking contrast of rain nearby and sunshine just beyond.

Nestled in a lush, low-altitude subtropical gorge, the Linmei Shipan Trail features gentle waterfalls and dense, cooling forest canopies. The path remains flat and easy throughout, with refreshing temperatures perfect for families. Once a vital route for villagers hauling water for crops and daily needs, it still bears traces of the pioneers’ hard work—evoking cherished childhood memories for local residents.

Starting from the Santa Maria Hiking Trail, the trail is preceded by a wide and well-trodden path through the bridge. Although the road is steep and accompanied by streams and waterfalls along the way, the ecological landscape is varied. It is also easy to walk through the forest and climb to the gazebo with an excellent view of the Lanyo Plain. There are mountain houses and statues of Our Lady on the platform of Our Lady, nicknamed “Our Lady” by the villagers. There is an image of the crucifix of Jesus standing on the peak of the Virgin Mary, looking at the rungs stacked with the triangulum, evoking the atmosphere of a great mountain. Climb the stone steps to the Lun Triangle. Although the top of the mountain is obscured by plants, the view from the top is excellent. The view from the top is excellent.
