제주특별자치도 한라산국립공원 Hallasan National Park, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
Hallasan Summit is the highest point in Korea at 1,950 metres. Baengnokdam Crater can only be reached via the Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa trails, both of which require advance reservations and enforce checkpoint cut-off times. The route follows forest paths, boardwalks, stone steps and long stair sections. Although the terrain is not technically complex, the continuous ascent and strict schedule make careful pacing, an early start and proper planning essential.

제주특별자치도 한라산국립공원 Hallasan National Park, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province

This moderate point-to-point route crosses Hallasan from the Seongpanak side to Gwaneumsa via Dongneung. It passes landmarks including Gwaneumsa Information Center, Cold Cave, Guringul, Wanggwanneung, Saraak Spring and several mountain springs. Hikers experience forest paths, volcanic terrain and dramatic valley scenery along the way. Because the trail begins and ends at different locations, onward transport should be arranged in advance. Carry enough water, wear suitable hiking shoes and allow sufficient time for the full crossing.

The Donnaeko Trail climbs from Hallasan’s southern side through dense forest to Nambyeok Junction. The official one-way route is about 7.8 km and gains substantial elevation, but it does not reach Baengnokdam Summit. Returning by the same path creates a long out-and-back, while linking Donnaeko with Eorimok or Yeongsil provides a more varied journey through Witseoreum and the open southern slopes. Strong fitness, sufficient water, an early start and a check of current trail restrictions are recommended.

The Eorimok Trail is one of Hallasan National Park’s most balanced non-summit hikes, climbing through forest to Sajebi Hill, Manse Hill and Witseoreum. The opening ascent is moderately steep, but higher sections follow gentler boardwalks across an open volcanic plateau with broad views of Hallasan’s upper slopes and southern wall. The route does not reach Baengnokdam Summit and requires no advance reservation, although seasonal entry and descent cut-off times still apply.
